PTCB launches new program for educators

WASHINGTON — A group that certifies pharmacy technicians has introduced a program for pharmacy tech educational institutions and training programs that provide classroom instruction, position students for employment and prepare them to participate in its national certification program.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board announced Tuesday the launch of the Educator Program, which educators can join by completing an online application to become "advocate educators."

"New medications, technology and developments in health care continue to expand pharmacy technician responsibilities beyond traditional roles," PTCB CEO and executive director Everett McAllister said. "As more training programs emerge to meet these demands, collaboration between PTCB and educators is essential to effectively prepare students for the pharmacy workforce."

Once enrolled, advocate educators receive various benefits and resources from the PTCB for free, including individual verification of a pharmacy tech's certification status, monthly newsletters, discounts on the PTCB's practice exam, quarterly school performance reports and recognition on the group's website.
