Genzyme, Hospira reportedly ink packaging deal

NEW YORK Generic drug maker Hospira will fill and package several drugs for Genzyme, according to published reports.

Reuters reported Wednesday that Hospira would handle filling and packaging for the Gaucher disease drug Cerezyme (imiglucerase), the Fabry disease drug Fabrazyme (agalsidase beta) and the thyroid cancer drug Thyrogen (thyrotropin alfa).

The agreement between the two companies is the result of a consent decree that requires Genzyme to move filling and packaging of the drugs due to contamination problems that arose last year.
